A couple of serious thoughts: I read a study showing rats laugh when tickled. Daniel Dennett (and others) have a book that discusses the theory that we might have evolved our sense of humor to allow the brain some relief from the constant fight-or-flight responses.
That's interesting and feels so true! I remember how, as a child, I hungered for humor and was ecstatic when I first discovered certain comics and comedians... (Monty Python for instance)
I've met several animals with a sense of humor. Our young donkey, Pee Wee (don't blame me, she arrived pre-named!) has a very slap-stick, Three Stooges-like sense of the funny. The first thing she did when we met was ram me in the belly like a goat - and then showed all her teeth like she was laughing! 🐴
